Tiger gymnasts entertain CVU

MIDDLEBURY — Visiting gymnastics power Champlain Valley defeated the Middlebury Union High School team on this past Wednesday, 121.90-111.95, in a meet contested at Mary Hogan Elementary School.
Highlights for the Tigers included a second-place effort by Carly Burger on the floor, third-place finishes by Laura Whitley in the all-around and beam, a third-place finish on the beam also by Lydia Alberts, a fifth-place effort by Olivia Beauchamp on the beam, and fifth- and sixth-place finishes by Aly Chione and Maeve Hammel, respectively, on the bars.
Tiger Nick Scott, a non-scorer due to gender, posted an 8.4 on the bars and an 8.1 on the vault in a pair of strong efforts. Two independents who train with the Tigers and whose scores also don’t count also fared well: Fair Haven’s Julianna Williams was third on the floor at 7.1, and Mount Abe’s Louisa Funk was fourth in the all-around with a total of 24.65.
The winners in each event and the top Tiger scorers were:
•  All Around: 1. Tali Giubardo (CVU), 31.8; 3. Whitley (MUHS),  26.7.
•  Vault: 1. Giubardo (CVU), 8.5; 7. Carly Burger (MUHS), 7.8.
•  Bars: 1. Giubardo (CVU), 7.8; 5. Chione (MUHS), 6.8; 6. Hammel (MUHS), 6.7.
•  Beam: 1. Giubardo (CVU), 8.6; 3. Whitley and Alberts (MUHS) 8.1; 5. Beauchamp (MUHS) and Lexie Cody (CVU). 7.8; 7. Burger (MUHS), 7.8.
•  Floor: 1. Cody (CVU), 7.4; 2. Burger (MUHS), 7.15; 6. Whitley (MUHS), 6.8.
