Tiger gymnasts topple Ghosts
RANDOLPH — The Middlebury Union High School gymnastics team edged host Randolph this past Wednesday, 107.5-104.6, to earn its first victory of the winter.
Junior Lian McGarry paced MUHS by winning the vault. Fair Haven independent Julianna Williams, who trains with the Tigers, won the floor exercise. Tiger Lucy Ursitti finished tied for second in the floor exercise and earned first-place points for MUHS.
Laura Whitley took second on the bars and sixth in two other events for the Tigers, while Tiger Carly Burger finished fourth in three events.
The top six finishers in each event were:
VAULT: 1. Lian McGarry (MUHS), 7.6; 2. Lilly Myrick (RHS), 7.5; 3. Louisa Funk (Mt. Abe independent), 7.4; 4. Burger (MUHS), 7.3; 4. Makayla Clement (RHS), 7.3; 6. Williams (Fair Haven), 7.1.
BARS: 1. Myrick (RHS), 6.6; 2. Whitley (MUHS), 6.13; Courtney Clement (RHS), 5.9; 4. Alyson Chione (MUHS), 5.8; 4. C. Clement (RHS), 5.8; 6. Maeve Hammel (MUHS), 5.6.
BEAM: 1. C. Clement (RHS), 8.3; 2. Funk (Mt. Abe), 7.7; 3. Myrick (RHS), 7.5; 4. Burger (MUHS), 7.2; 5. M. Clement (RHS), 7.1; 6. Whitley (MUHS), 6.8.
FLOOR: 1. Williams (Fair Haven), 8.0; 2. Ursitti (MUHS), and C. Clement (RHS), 7.3; 4. Burger (MUHS), 7.2; 5. M. Clement (RHS), 7.1; 6. Whitley (MUHS), 6.8.
