Girls’ high school hoop round up: Local teams defeated
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ basketball play, Vergennes, Otter Valley and Middlebury lost games played before and after a batch of postponements on Thursday and Friday, including Mount Abraham’s home game vs. MUHS on Friday night. That game was moved to Feb. 8.
COMMODORES
On Saturday host Mount Mansfield overcame an early Commodore lead to post a 50-30 victory. VUHS led after one quarter, 10-7, but the 3-3 Cougars took control in the second quarter and led by 26-17 at the half. Devyn Beliveau-Gale scored 18 points to lead MMU. Emily Gosliga scored eight for the 2-2 Commodores.
The Commodores’ Thursday game at Harwood was postponed.
OTTERS
On Wednesday host Mill River (2-3) used balanced scoring and tough defense to get past the Otters, 34-24. OV’s Gabby Poalino tossed in a game-high 13 points, while McKenna Ludden led the Minutemen with nine.
The Otters fell to 1-3. Their Saturday game at Springfield was postponed.
TIGERS
On Wednesday host Mount Mansfield outlasted the Tigers, 50-40. The Cougars led at the half by 26-23. Keagan Dunbar led all scorers with 21 points, while Shannon Sunderland chipped in 12 points and Ashley Sunderland hauled in 12 rebounds as MUHS dropped to 0-4.
