Curbside Christmas tree pickup postponed due to frigid weather

Cold enough for you? It’s been cold, for sure, but after a midweek respite of daytime highs in the teens, temps are forecast to dive well below zero this weekend with Saturday’s high predicted to be only a few degrees above hell freezing over.
As such, those with a little foresight are calling off or delaying some weekend events.
The Addison County Solid Waste Management District had planned to pick up discarded Christmas trees at curbsides in Vergennes and Middlebury on Saturday; but the organization postponed the pick up until the following Saturday, Jan. 13. Please do not put out your trees at the curb until the night of Jan. 12, or the trees might blow around the neighborhood and create a nuisance and/or hazard.
You can still drop off your tree at the District Transfer Station at 1223 Route 7 South in Middlebury during normal hours: 7 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday.
Elsewhere, one of the coaches of the MUHS Nordic ski team tells us that Saturday’s Harwood Invitational has been moved because of the ungodly cold — cheer for the local skiers at Trapps this Thursday.
