Boys’ hoop roundup: MUHS & Mt. Abe post wins

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school boys’ basketball late last week, Middlebury broke into the win column and Mount Abraham reached .500, while Otter Valley and Vergennes dropped road contests.
TIGERS
On Dec. 27 the Tigers picked up their first win by defeating visiting Colchester, 65-58. The Tigers ran to a 38-20 lead at the break and stymied the Lakers’ attempt at a rally. Cody Pomainville (15 points) and Parker Beatty (10) led a balanced MUHS attack.
On the 29th host South Burlington drilled 16 three-pointers in dealing MUHS a 89-57 setback. Evan Parker (19) led four Wolves in double figures. Pomainville led MUHS with 14 points.
On Tuesday host Mill River jumped out to a 28-9 first-quarter lead on the way to a 63-48 victory over the Tigers. Zach Ames led MRU with 16 points and hit three first-quarter three-pointers. Three players reached double figures for the 1-4 Tigers: Zach Dunn (13), and Pomainville and Tyler Buxton (11 each).
EAGLES
On Dec. 27 the Eagles blitzed visiting Randolph, 66-38, building leads of 15-6 after one period and 35-17 at the break. Logan Rodriquez (14) andDustin Whitcomb (13) paced the Eagles as they evened their record at 2-2 heading into a Wednesday game at OV. The Ghosts dropped to 0-3.
OTTERS
On the 27th Mill River held on to edge OV, 47-43, in a the opening round of a four-team tournament at Woodstock. OV’s Dylan Mackie tied MRU’s Brian Eaton for the game high with 20 points, andJosh Letourneau added 10 for the Otters.
On Dec. 29 Hartford knocked off OV, 61-51 in the tourney’s consolation game. Hunter Gaudette scored 21 for the Hurricanes. Letourneau and Mackie each scored 15 points as OV dropped to 2-3. 
COMMODORES
On Dec. 28 host Harwood pulled away in the second half for a 69-55 victory over the Commodores. The 1-3 Highlanders led at the break, 28-26, and scored 41 afterward. Max Hill scored 21 for Harwood. Lance Bergmans tossed in 21 for VUHS (1-2).
