Boys’ hockey team wins its own tournament
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team swept two tight games last week to win the Tigers’ own Fletcher “Buster” Brush Holiday Classic at the Memorial Sports Center.
On Thursday the Tigers erased an early Milton lead with a pair of goals in the second period to earn a 2-1 victory.
Tyler Giorgio scored the equalizer, with an assist from Kolby Farnsworth, and then Farnsworth netted the game-winner, with an assist from Giorgio. MUHS goalie Jeffrey Stearns made 20 saves, while Yellowjacket goalie Jackson Ehler stopped 30 shots.
On Friday the Tigers nipped Lake Placid, 1-0. Farnsworth scored at 2:07 of the third, with Ben Turner assisting, and Stearns posted 11 saves as the Tigers improved to 4-0-1 heading into a Wednesday game at South Burlington. Lake Placid goalie Anders Stanton made 39 saves to keep the Bombers in the game.
