ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police cited three different people for driving under the influence of drugs in Addison County in the last week and a half. In one instance the citation came after the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of bones broken in a crash.

First, on Oct. 11 at 10:50 p.m. state police stopped a vehicle on Route 22A in Shoreham after observing multiple traffic violations. The trooper detected signs of impairment in the driver, identified as 25-year-old Kyle C. Fielden of Fairfax. Police screened Fielden for DUI, took him into custody and transported him to the New Haven state police barracks where Fielden was analyzed by a Drug Recognition Expert. Police released Fielden after citing him for DUI- drug impairment.

Then, on Oct. 15 state police responded to a one-car rollover crash on Route 22A near Townline Road in Bridport. Police found a 2009 Honda Civic on its roof off the east side of the roadway. The driver, 18-year-old Jakob Banks of Alburtis, Penn., was uninjured and had already exited the vehicle. Troopers screened Banks for DUI, took him to the New Haven barracks for a drug influence evaluation, and cited him for DUI-Drugs.

Finally, on Monday, Oct. 16, at a quarter past 6 a.m. troopers were dispatched to a one-car crash on South Middlebrook Road in Ferrisburgh. Police determined that Jessica Abbott, 37, of Vergennes was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon southbound on South Middlebrook Road when the vehicle crossed the road, left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

While speaking with Abbott, police said they detected several signs of impairment. Abbott was transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment of a broken left hip.

After police consulted a Drug Recognition Expert, they cited Abbott for driving under the influence of drugs.

Police said that in one other case DUI-drugs charges are pending the results of a blood test. In this case, troopers on Oct. 15 at approximately 4:03 a.m. responded to a one-car rollover crash on Route 74 in Shoreham near Bates Road. When they got there, troopers found the vehicle in the roadway and the driver, 23-year-old Tyler Dunton of Middlebury, was being treated by first responders. Dunton was transported to Porter Hospital for treatment of head and neck injuries. Police screened Dunton for DUI at the hospital and they completed a drug impairment evaluation. He was later transferred to UVM Medical Center for further treatment.

State police said a traffic ticket was also pending in this case. They judged that the 2000 Subaru Legacy that Dunton was driving, which had roof damage, was a total loss.

In other recent activity, state police:

•  On Oct. 13 announced three animal cruelty citations. On Oct. 7 at approximately 12:30 p.m. troopers executed a search warrant at a residence on Burrows Farm Road and ended up citing Ferrisburgh residents Katherine Ferguson, 61, and Thomas Ferguson, 51, as well as Roxanne Clark, 36, of Bridport for cruelty to animals. Police seized 28 animals due to the poor living conditions and conditions of the animals; Burlington Emergency & Veterinary Specialists and the Addison County Humane Society: Homeward Bound assisted. The seized animals included 11 dogs; nine birds; multiple cats, ferrets and guinea pigs; a hamster; and a bearded dragon.

•  On Oct. 13 at approximately 7:24 p.m. looked into a complaint of a vehicle operating erratically while southbound on Route 116 in Bristol. State police located and stopped the vehicle after observing several traffic infractions and ended up citing Alyson M. Longe, 41, of Underhill for driving under the influence.

•  On Oct. 14 at approximately 3:36 a.m. got a call from a homeowner who saw someone down near their dock near their Westside Drive home in Leicester. The caller was unsure how many people were there but could see some with flashlights. When they got to the area, troopers saw a lone vehicle exiting the roadway and determined that the driver, identified as 19-year-old Lyndsy Quenneville of Salisbury, and her four friends were the ones on the dock.

While speaking with Quenneville, troopers detected signs of impairment, so they screened her and ended up citing her for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said Quenneville’s four friends, all of whom were under age 18, were also found to have also been consuming alcoholic beverages and were issued diversion paperwork.

•  On Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m. while conducting motor vehicle enforcement on Route 7 in New Haven, saw a vehicle stopped at the intersection of River Road and Route 7 in and recognized the driver as Everett W. White, 35, of Starksboro. The trooper knew Whites driver’s license was under criminal suspension so he cited While for driving with a criminally suspended license.
