The Golden Touch
The President’s lies
are a cruel currency,
an unfair trade
in the marketplace
of American ideals —
He couches them
in the tinsel wrapping
of raucous campaign stops:
red meat for the loyal,
the believers, the die-hards
who will come
to the table one day
and find
it was all fool’s gold,
a lot of sound and fury
signifying nothing
but thin gruel,
while the super-rich
rest in the cool comfort
of their entitlements.
