Letter to the editor: Cornwall firefighters were helpful, cheerful
At 6:30 on the morning of Christmas Eve our fire alarms went off. We searched the house, but could not find anything wrong. It then shut off so we went back to bed. Fifteen minutes later it went off again, this time not stopping. We decided to call the Cornwall Fire Department, telling them that it was not an emergency because there was no sign of smoke anywhere.
Four fire fighters arrived within 15 minutes, and went through the house with a fine tooth comb. They eventually put the blame on dust accumulating in one of the fire alarms and two being defective.
Everyone was cheerful, comforting, efficient and thoroughly professional, in spite of it being Christmas Eve and so early in a Sunday morning.
We both feel grateful to have such a marvelous group of volunteers in our community and thank them very much for their skill, time and trouble.
Our Christmas will now be worry free.
