VUHS, snow storms win in girls’ hoop

ADDISON COUNTY — In the only local high school girls’ basketball action late last week, Vergennes broke into the win column with a home victory.
Middlebury’s home game vs. Otter Valley was postponed until Jan. 15, and Mount Abraham’s annual appearance at Fair Haven’s holiday tournament was moved from last week to this Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Dec. 20, VUHS took a 14-4 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 43-34 victory over visiting Harwood. Brianna Vanderway and Emily Gosliga paced the Commodores with nine points apiece. Harwood’s Ellie Rochford also scored nine points.
Vanderway added eight rebounds and three blocks for VUHS, Kate Gosliga chipped in 10 rebounds, and Morgan Lynk contributed five steals. Coach Billy Waller noted six Commodores sank three-pointers in the win.
