In boys’ hoop: OV nips Tigers, other teams fall
ADDISON COUNTY — Before bad weather wiped out weekend boys’ basketball games, in Wednesday action last week Otter Valley held off a challenge from Middlebury to highlight local play. In other Wednesday action both Mount Abraham and Vergennes came up short.
MUHS AT OV
On Wednesday at OV the Otters bolted to a big lead, but had to withstand a late Tiger charge to earn a 61-57 victory. OV took a 32-17 advantage built with help from the three-point marksmanship of guards Josh Letourneau (21 points for the game) and Dylan Mackie (20). A three from Tiger Cody Pomainville (14 points total) made it 37-25 at the break.
The Tigers closed to within 48-40 after three periods, thanks in part to the work of Bastiaan Phair (13) inside. Finally, a three by Zach Dunn (10 points) gave the Tigers the lead at 55-54 late in the fourth.
But Mackie then fed Marcus McCullough for the go-ahead hoop, and OV held on for the win and improved to 2-1.
The Tigers dropped to 0-2. They were set to host Colchester on Wednesday after the deadline for this edition and will visit South Burlington on Friday.
EAGLES
Last Wednesday visiting Winooski rolled to a 29-15 halftime lead on the way to a 57-39 victory over Mount Abe. Abdullah Sadik scored 16 to lead three Spartans in double figures.
Logan Rodriguez (13 points) and Jackson Counter (12) led the Eagles, who dropped to 1-2 heading into a Wednesday home game vs. Randolph. They will host OV next Wednesday.
