MUHS boys’ ice hockey skates past Lake Placid
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team opened Tuesday’s second period at Lake Placid with three straight goals on the way to a 5-2 victory over the Bombers.
The victory allowed the Tigers to remain unbeaten at 3-0-1 heading into a Saturday evening home game vs. Division I rival U-32. Next up for the Tigers is their annual holiday tournament next Thursday and Friday, when they will host Milton and Lake Placid, respectively. Both games will be played at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Center.
On this past Tuesday, LP’s Hunter Wilmot gave the home team an early lead, but Tiger senior Wills Huntington made it 1-1 after the first period with an unassisted strike, the first varsity goal of his career.
Two minutes into the second period Tyler Giorgio made it 2-1, and at the midway point Devon Kearns made it 3-1, with assists from Kolby Farnsworth and Kamrin Bartlett. Hale Hescock made it 4-1 at 12:08 with his first varsity goal, from Giorgio and Brian Kiernan.
LP’s Tyler Hinckley scored late in the second period to cut the MUHS lead to 4-2, and Giorgio closed out the scoring in the final period with a power-play strike, with assists from Hescock and Krystian Gombosi.
