Community searches for lost dog after it runs away when Town Hall Theater director is struck by car
MIDDLEBURY — Many people — residents and visitors alike — this week have been looking around Middlebury for a golden retriever named Willie, who belongs to Doug and Debby Anderson of East Middlebury.
Doug Anderson, executive director of Town Hall Theater, was walking his beloved dog Willie at around 1:45 p.m. Monday when a vehicle struck and slightly injured him while he negotiated one of the Court Square crosswalks.
Fortunately, Anderson sustained only bruises, though he hasn’t seen a physician yet because he and his spouse, Debby, have been spending much of their time searching for their dog, who darted away from the accident scene.
Willie was last seen on Water Street, heading toward Middlebury Union High School.
The Andersons put out an all points bulletin to friends, colleagues and people they saw on the street to keep an eye out for the light-haired golden. The couple called out several people by name on Debby’s Facebook page for particular thanks as the search continued.
Reports had come in of the dog being seen at various spots around town, and there was even hope that Willie would find his own way home. Debby Anderson’s Facebook page included a message about one friend who had enlisted a psychic, who said she saw the dog in a specific location all tangled up.
“Not sure I believe in psychics, but I want to today!” Debby Anderson wrote. “Thanks for all your help and concern. I want him next to me on the couch!”
Anyone with information about Willie’s whereabouts should call 388-3345.
