Vergennes police step up holiday patrols
VERGENNES — The Vergennes Police Department, in conjunction with other Addison County law enforcement agencies, will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and impaired driving patrols during this holiday season, Chief George Merkel announced on Friday.
“We ask all operators to drive safely as they travel to and from holiday events by making sure everyone in their vehicles are using their seatbelts, refrain from use of cell phones and other electronic devices while driving and not to operate their vehicles while drinking or impaired,” Merkel said. “We ask for your support and cooperation in our attempts to keep our local streets and highways safe.
“We also ask operators to allow adequate time for travel and to keep the spirit of the holidays in mind while they head to their destinations,” the chief added.
