Skiing lesson scholarships offered
MIDDLEBURY/HANCOCK — After his death in 2007, the family and friends of Joe Doria, a long-time employee of Middlebury College, established a fund in Doria’s memory: the Joe Doria Memorial Ski/Snowboard Lesson Scholarship.
The deadline for applications for this year is next Tuesday, Dec. 19.
Since Doria spent 30-plus years working at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl in both the snack bar and ticket office, and because he derived such great pleasure from his daily contact with the countless children there, a scholarship fund was established to help deserving kids be introduced to the sports of skiing or snowboarding.
Beginning in the winter of 2007-08, two scholarships to the Snow Bowl’s Winter Series lesson program were awarded annually. These scholarships cover participation in the series of six ski or snowboard lessons as well as use of Snow Bowl rental equipment during the lessons.
The scholarships are available to children in second through eighth grades.
