Laura Thomas and the Grift cover classics at Marquis this Friday
From San Francisco to New York, Laura Thomas has packed prestigious venues, such as the Rockwood Music Hall (New York), Uncommon Ground (Chicago) and Red Devil Lounge (San Francisco). On Dec. 1, this local singer teams up with The Grift’s Clint Bierman (guitar), Peter Day (bass), Jeff Vallone (drums) to offer a hometown Led Zeppelin show at Middlebury’s Marquis Theater.
Thomas sings with Ani DiFranco’s tell-it-like-it-is defiance, Grace Potter’s sheer, clear power, and the insight of Patty Griffin. The result is an audio-shock of emotional truth. Thomas co-produced five albums — solo and with The Laura Thomas Band: “Little Bones” (2013); “Live at Rockwood” (2008); “Step to the Wire” (2005); “Slow” (2004); “On My Sleeve” (2002).
According to The Washington Post, Thomas’ voice “is capable of tracing melodies as sinuous as the Rock Creek Parkway, and she has a soft spot for writing tender, compassionate or introspective ballads that help set her apart from the rant ‘n’ roll crowd.” Don’t miss Thomas channel Robert Plant this Friday alongside her fellow Middlebury College alumni, Clint Bierman, Peter Day and Jeff Vallone.
Tickets are $8 at the Marquis Theater door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show begins at 8 p.m.
