Vergennes Police Log: Vergennes police cite two for DUI
VERGENNES — Vergennes police issued two citations for driving under the influence late last week.
On Nov. 18 city police cited Jonathan C. Bouffard, 32, of Middlebury for refusal to submit to DUI testing. Police allege that Bouffard showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol after they stopped his vehicle on Monkton Road for failing to honor a stop sign.
On Nov. 16 city police cited Nicholas Cormier, 28, of Vergennes for DUI after stopping his vehicle on New Haven Road for defective equipment. Police tested Cormier’s blood-alcohol content after they detected signs of intoxication, and alleged that his evidentiary test result read 0.161; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
In other incidents between Nov. 13 and 19 Vergennes police:
• On Nov. 14 helped Vermont State Police by responding to Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, where a tractor-trailer hit a deer. Police removed the dead animal from the highway.
• On Nov. 15 helped VSP by sending the department Drug Recognition Expert to evaluate a suspect; police said the DRE determined the suspect had been under the influence while driving.
• On Nov. 15 did a background check for Austin, Texas, police.
• On Nov. 16 dealt with a minor two-car accident on Main Street.
• On Nov. 16 intervened in a child visitation dispute and enforced an order that allowed a father to visit his child. At the request of the mother, on Nov. 17 they checked to see if the man was driving under the influence and determined he was not.
• On Nov. 18 stood by until a tow truck arrived to pull a pickup truck out of a ditch on Green Street.
• On Nov. 19 called a farmer to retrieve a cow wandering loose on South Maple Street.
• On Nov. 19 searched West Street after a report of a suspicious vehicle.
• On Nov. 19 ticketed a motorist for marijuana possession and speeding at a West Main Street traffic stop.
• On Nov. 19 were told a man was missing from a Short Street home; Rutland authorities found him there, and he returned home.
