Middlebury cross country runners net NCAA bids
GORHAM, Maine — After solid performances in an NCAA Division III Regional this past weekend, the Middlebury College men’s and women’s cross country teams have been selected to take part in the 2017 NCAA Division III championship races hosted by Principia College in Elsah, Ill., on Saturday.
On this past Saturday at a regional hosted by Southern Maine in Gorham, Maine, the Panther men, ranked No. 15, finished third among 55 teams with 124 points, while the 8th-ranked Panther women were fourth among 56 squads with 113.
The men’s team was paced by Ascencion Aispuro and Matt D’Aquila. Aispuro led the group with a fourth-place finish in 25:32.9, while D’Aquila covered the 8-kilometer course in 25:50.9, good for 15th place. Harrison Knowlton was next in 25th (26:01.9), Theo Henderson was 31st (26:10.3), and Henry Fleming finished 49th (26:22.2).
Abigail Nadler led the Panther women, placing fifth overall for the third-straight year, this time in 20:49.4 over 6K. Katherine MacCary took 20th in 21:46.4, Meg Wilson was 26th (22:10.4), Read Allen was 30th (22:11.9), and Rory Kelly took 36th in 22:17.3.
