NER Out Loud: Students read selections from the New England Review

In the tradition of Public Radio International’s “Selected Shorts,” students from Oratory Now will read selections from the New England Review (NER) literary magazine in this fourth annual live performance of “NER Out Loud,” Friday, Nov. 10, 8 p.m., in the Dance Theater at the Mahaney Center for the Arts. The event will be followed by a “S’more Readings” reception in the downstairs lobby with representatives of several student literary magazines who will read from their work. Both events are free and open to the public. Sign language interpretation will be offered.
This year’s readers and selections will include: Pele Voncujovi ’19 reading “Origin Story” by Kazim Ali; Sam Martin ’19 reading “Take Stock” by Clarence Orsi; Paige Guarino ’18.5 reading “Philomath” by Devon Walker-Figueroa; Nia Robinson ’19 reading “The Doll Family” by Rosaleen Bertolino; Dominick Tanoh ’18 reading “Horn of Plenty” by Paisley Rekdal; and Amanda Whiteley ’19 reading “War Stories” by David Heronry. All of the selections were originally published by New England Review in 2017.
Editors and contributors to the student literary magazines Blackbird, Fram, and Translingual will also be at the post-show reception to discuss their publications and give sample readings from their pages. Attendees will be invited to enjoy s’more-themed treats while listening to the readings in the lobby.
NER Out Loud is the result of a partnership between the Mahaney Center for the Arts, the student group Oratory Now and the New England Review. NER Out Loud has been organized by New England Review Editor Carolyn Kuebler, playwright and Oratory Now director Dana Yeaton, and Mahaney Center for the Arts Director Liza Sacheli.
