Middlebury voters OK easements to Vermont Gas
MIDDLEBURY — Residents here on Tuesday voted 279 to 168 to affirm a Middlebury’s selectboard decision to award three free easements on town-owned land to Vermont Gas.
The company will now use those easements to feed its natural gas distribution line to a combined total of 15 connections in the downtown Middlebury area.
Middlebury resident Ross Conrad asserted Vermont Gas should have been made to pay the town for those easements. So he circulated a petition that resulted in Tuesday’s Australian ballot vote, at which residents were asked to either affirm or reject the selectboard’s decision to grant the three free easements.
