STARKSBORO/BRISTOL — Drivers may encounter delays when traveling along Route 116 between Bristol and Starksboro this week as repaving of the highway continues.
Construction officials said that the week of Oct. 23 will mark the last week of paving for the six-and-a-half-mile section of road between Bristol village near the Lord’s Prayer Rock to just south of Robinson School in Starksboro village. Final paving is scheduled to start Monday in Bristol and progress north, weather permitting.
Crews also will be completing new guardrail installation in Starksboro this week.
General cleanup work will occur throughout the project.  
Travel will be reduced to one lane with alternating one-way traffic around all active construction operations.  Flaggers will be present to assist in maintaining traffic flow. Expect traffic delays between Bristol village and Starksboro all week.
State officials reminded drivers that it is illegal in Vermont to use any handheld portable electronic devices while driving. The law carries fines of up to $200 with points assessed if the violation occurs in a work zone.
Route 116 from the southeast end of Bristol village to Route 7 in East Middlebury will be paved next year.
