City Legion to host trunk or treat

VERGENNES — Trick or treating in rural parts of Addison County can pose a challenge. Over the years, trunk or treat events in town centers have provided families with an alternative to parents driving for miles, children walking on roads with no streetlights, and the hit or miss search for good treats.
The American Legion Auxiliary Post 14 in Vergennes will be holding their trunk or treat and costume dance party on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m.
The event begins with the costume karaoke dance party with DJ Amanda Rock at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., trunk or treat will commence in a roped off area in the parking lot, where an array of cars with decorated trunks will supply treats for all the trick or treaters.
Parents and community members can register to bring their cars and candy to distribute from their decorated trunk. After the dance party, kids will be led to the parking area so that they can go car to car for treats. Through the event, people who live out of town and don’t get trick or treaters can join the fun, parents can condense their child’s treat or treating to one stop, and anyone with ambulatory issues can participate. Because the trunk or treat takes place from 2-3 p.m., children will be home before dark.
Anyone interested in registering their vehicle for trunk or treat can contact please contact Martha DeGraaf at 802-349-0299 or email at [email protected]. All vehicles must arrive half an hour before the trick or treating, and are responsible for providing their own treats. New to this year’s event, prizes will be given for the top three trunks.
