Otters only winner in high school field hockey

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school field hockey play, all on Tuesday, Otter Valley won big to nail down the No. 3 seed in Division II, while both Mount Abraham and Middlebury lost to visiting D-I teams at home.
The teams will play their final regular season games this weekend, and the Vermont Principals’ Association will announce playoff pairings on Monday.
OTTERS
The Otters coasted past Fair Haven, 8-1, as Alia Edmunds scored three times and Chelsea Reed added a pair of goals. Morgan LaPorte, Katie Coolidge, and Isabella Falco contributed a goal apiece for the Otters, and goalie Ellie Ross made two saves as OV improved to 10-2-1 heading into a Saturday home game with Windsor. The Otters have an insurmountable lead over No. 4 Burr & Burton, but need help to catch undefeated Spaulding for the No. 2 seed.
Theresa Culpo scored for the 0-11-2 Slaters, assisted by Adrianna Dalto, and goalie Jordyn Howard made nine saves.
EAGLES
The Eagles kept 12-1 South Burlington off the board until the second half, but the Wolves broke through after the break to prevail, 2-0. Marissa Peina had four saves for the Wolves.
Goalie Chessley Jackman stopped six shots for the Eagles, who dropped to 3-6-4 heading into a rare Thursday game against another D-II foe on their schedule, U-32. Woodstock (5-5-3) moved ahead of the Eagles into the No. 5 spot in the D-II standings by tying Springfield on Tuesday and those two teams in some order will be the Nos. 5 and 6 seeds, depending on results in their final games.
TIGERS
Rice, at 8-3-1 D-I’s No. 5 team, edged the visiting Tigers, 1-0, on Tuesday, in a statistically even contest. Rice goalie Emily Rachek made four saves for the Green Knights, and Bridget Audet stopped five shots for the 0-11-1 Tigers. MUHS will look to break through against Essex (11-2) on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers will open the playoffs with a road play-in game, possibly vs. Brattleboro (3-9).
