Rally lifts VUHS boys’ soccer over MVU, 2-1
SWANTON — The Vergennes Union High School boys’ soccer team on Friday rallied for a critical win at Missisquoi, 2-1.
The result put the Commodores at 5-5-1, good for seventh place in Division III with two games remaining on their schedule.
It appears all but certain they will host a first-round game unless they drop both their remaining contests while both No. 8 Thetford (4-6-1) and No. 9 Windsor (5-7) sweep the rest of their games, and even then the points could still favor VUHS.
On Friday the 0-12 T-Birds took the lead on a Ryan Raleigh goal with 19 minutes to go, but Josias Salomao netted the equalizer within a minute. Ezekiel Palmer converted a penalty kick for the game winner with three minutes to go.
Both VUHS goalie Jeffrey Stearns and MVU’s Kyle Gilbert stopped 10 shots.
