Mount Abe, OV post wins as field hockey approaches playoffs

ADDISON COUNTY — Otter Valley won twice to highlight local high school field hockey action late last week, when also Mount Abraham picked up a tie in two outings and Middlebury dropped a pair of contests. Teams are entering the last week of regular season play. 
OTTERS
On Wednesday Alia Edmunds’ third goal came with 1:46 remaining in overtime as the Otters defeated host Windsor, Division III’s first-place team, 4-3.
Sophie Markowski also scored for OV, and Katie Coolidge assisted Edmunds’ game-winner. Windsor goalie Glenna Ricard made seven saves, and OV’s Ellie Ross stopped two shots.
On Saturday the Otters blanked host Springfield, 5-0. Edmunds (two goals, one assist), Coolidge (two goals) and Chelsea Reed (goal, three assists) accounted for the OV offense, and Ross made one save. Cosmo goalie Anna Church stopped 17 shots.
At 9-2-1 the Otters stand in third place in Division II with two home games to go vs. Fair Haven (Tuesday) and Windsor (Saturday).
EAGLES
On Wednesday visiting Essex improved to 9-2 by blanking the Eagles, 5-0. Hornet Jenna Puleo notched two goals and an assist. Mount Abe goalie Chessley Jackman racked up 15 saves for the Eagles, who were held without a shot on goal.
On Friday the Eagles tied host Rice as Jackman stopped 13 shots. Rice goalie Emily Rachek made four saves.
At 3-5-4 against their mostly D-I schedule the Eagles look like the No. 5 seed in D-II.
TIGERS
On Wednesday Colchester moved to 8-2-1 by topping the host Tigers, 6-0. Laker Meg Lehouiller recorded two goals and an assist to lead her team, and Colchester goalie Ciera Morse stopped four shots.
On Friday the 0-10-1 Tigers fell to visiting Champlain Valley despite 13 saves from goalie Bridget Audet.
