Letters to the Editor: Federal health centers face 70 percent cuts — now
I am writing in support of Mountain Health Center here in Bristol. As a Federally Qualified Heath Center, they provide medical and dental services to people regardless of insurance, or lack of insurance. For those less fortunate the fees are based on income.
Mountain Health is one of about 40 FQHCs in Vermont. There are hundreds around the U.S. If not extended by Sept. 30 (Friday), federal funding for these essential health centers will be cut by 70 percent. Many will close their doors. Millions across the country will lose affordable care.
There is a bill in the House (HR3770) to extend the funding. We are urging Rep. Peter Welch, Sen. Patrick Leahy and Sen. Bernie Sanders to support this bill through both houses before Sept. 30.
If you are so inclined, please call them and request their support:
Peter Welch (202) 225-4115
Patrick Leahy 202) 224-4242
Bernie Sanders (802) 862-0697
Thank you very, very much.
