Bowdoin men end Panther soccer’s winning streak
BRUNSWICK, Maine — Host Bowdoin on Saturday defeated the Middlebury College men’s soccer team, 3-1, ending the Panthers’ four-game winning streak and dropping them to 5-2, 2-2 in NESCAC play. Bowdoin improved to 5-2, 3-1 in the league. The Panthers will host Colby at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The Polar Bears scored on a 25-yard direct kick by Ethan Ellsworth 14:32 into the contest that hooked around the wall and past diving Middlebury keeper Jeremy Yeager (four saves). That goal ended Yeager’s scoreless streak at 367:45.
Middlebury countered less than four minutes later, when Daniel O’Grady headed in a pass from Drew Goulart. The Polar Bears claimed a 2-1 lead when Moctar Niang headed in a feed from Matty McColl with 8:14 left before the break.
Niang made it 3-1 just 1:50 after the break with another header. The Panthers’ best chance came in the 68th minute, but Bowdoin goalie Stevie Van Siclen (four saves) denied Goulart after a restart.
