Girls’ soccer: OV ties while others defeated

ADDISON COUNTY — In high school girls’ soccer play, all on Tuesday, Otter Valley earned a tie, but Mount Abraham, Vergennes and Middlebury all came up short.
OTTERS
The Otters received a 10-save effort from goalie Gabby Paolino, including a stop on a penalty kick, in a 0-0 tie at Twin Valley. OV is 1-4-1. Twin Valley goalie Tayler Courchesne made three saves.
EAGLES
Visiting Spaulding took a 2-0 first-half lead on the way to a 3-1 win over Mount Abe. Emma Carter’s goal in the second half-10th minute, set up by Abby Mansfield, cut the lead to one, but Randi Dudley scored her second goal of the game for the Tide (2-3) to provide insurance. Spaulding goalie Lindsey LaPan made eight saves, and Olivia Paine stopped five shots for the 3-3 Eagles.
COMMODORES
Host Milton improved to 4-1 by defeating VUHS, 5-0. Yellowjacket Tatum Shappy scored twice, and goalie Madison North made three saves. Goalie Anya Sonwaldt stopped 10 shots for the 1-4 Commodores.
TIGERS
Host Rice (4-1) got five first-half goals from Alex Dostie in defeating MUHS, 9-0. The loss was the first for the 4-1 Tigers. Tiger Coach Wendy Leeds said it felt “like they caught us on our worst night and we caught them on their best.” Tiger goalies Abby Gleason (two saves) and Carly Burger (four) combined for six stops. Two Rice goalies also combined for six saves.
