Student of the Week, 9/18/2017, Ally Atkins
Vergennes Union High School is pleased to recognize Ally Atkins as its Student of the Week. Ally lives in Ferrisburgh with her dad and mom, Ron and Shannon Atkins. Ally has an older brother, Chase, who lives and works on a farm in Addison.
Ally has made high honor roll all four years at VUHS. She was inducted into the National Honor Society last year. Ally has received numerous underclassman awards in the areas of Social Studies, Math, English and German. She also was the recipient of the Williams College Book Award her junior year. This year Ally is the recipient of the Green and Gold Scholarship. Ally has challenged herself by participating in the UVM Health and Medicine Academy during the summer of 2016. This past summer Ally took a course through UVM on Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies.
Ally is also a contributing member of our Vergennes Union High School community. She has been on the lacrosse team since grade nine. She is a member of both the Commodore Jazz band and the Commodore Singers. Ally was also a participant in the Commodore Community Project last year and this year.
Ally says, “It’s hard to grow as a learner without challenging yourself and pushing beyond your limits. I learned a lot about myself and what I was capable of by participating in activities and classes I wouldn’t normally take.”
VUHS English teacher Karl Steen has been impressed by Ally.
“I can think of no senior more deserving of our first Student of the Week recognition for the 2017-2018 school year than Ally Atkins,” Steen says. “Ally’s dedication to scholarship is admirable. An outstanding student, Ally sets a high bar for our learning community while harboring a contagiously optimistic and energetic attitude. Ally Atkins is the real deal, and we Commodores are proud to call her one of our own. Congratulations, Ally!”
Following graduation from VUHS, Ally plans to attend a four-year university to study neuroscience and find a career in the medical field. The faculty, staff and students of VUHS wish Ally the very best in the future.
