Local runners vie at Burlington High School; Tiger girls are fourth

BURLINGTON — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ cross-country team finished fourth, the best placement among Division-II squads, at Saturday’s Burlington High School Invitational, while Tiger boys’ senior Sam Hodges took fourth in the boys’ 5K race.
Host Burlington won both varsity team competitions, with North Kingstown (R.I.) High School second in each. BHS scored 71 in the girls’ 5K race, followed by North Kingstown (84), Essex (121) and the Tigers (130).
Freshman Camille Malhotra led MUHS by taking 11th in the girls’ race, and senior Caroline Kimble was right on her heels in 13th. Vergennes and Mount Abraham girls’ runners competed in the JV race, with VUHS sophomore Emma Beauchemin taking 11th.
Burlington edged North Kingstown, 44-45, in the boys’ race, with D-II Harwood (107) in third. Another D-II team, Woodstock (175) finished fifth, with the Tigers (233) in seventh. VUHS, led by junior Spencer Hurlburt’s 29th-place finish, came in 11th (273). The Eagle boys were one short of the five runners needed to score; senior Aidan May finished 61st.

Sofia Stefani, 23:49.6; 59. Mary Ann Eastman, 24:41.4; 62. The Commodores girls’ finishes and times in the JV race were: 11. Emma Beauchemin, 24:36.6; 25. Ashley Cray, 25:46.2; 32. Olivia Hawkins, 25:57.2.
MUHS BOYS
The Tiger boys’ overall finishes and times in the varsity race were: 4. Sam Hodges, 17:19.8; 37. Jack Christner, 19:08.5; 59. Thomas Nevins, 20:28.1; 64. Daniel Wisell, 20:44.1; 69. Ethan Reiderer, 20:57.4; 70. William Carpenter, 20:57.5; 87. Nico Brayton, 22:09.7.
VUHS BOYS
The Commodores boys’ finishes and times in the varsity race were: 29. Spencer Hurlburt, 18:51.1; 35. Wade Mullin, 19:06.3; 51. Erich Reitz, 19:47.9; 68. Gabe Praamsma, 20:56.9; 90. Ben Praamsma 22:50.5.

The Eagle boys’ finishes and times in the varsity race were: 61. Aidan May, 20:16.5; 101. Ryan Adams, 23:39.1; 107. Caleb Hunter, 25:22.0; 108. Brian Cousineau, 27:13.9.
