Route 116 construction to run through 2018

ADDISON COUNTY — The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) this week will begin a multi-year paving project that extends from Starksboro to Middlebury.
Pike Industries was awarded the contract for the project, which extends for approximately 20 miles along Route 116 from just south of Robinson School in Starksboro to the Route 7/Route 116 intersection in Middlebury. The project does not include paving within Bristol village.
Starting the week of Sept. 11 crews will focus on paving two layers of new pavement, cleaning the ditch lines, and installing new guardrails on the 6.5-mile stretch from south of Robinson School in Starksboro to the just outside of Bristol village near the Lord’s Prayer Rock. Following completion of work in this section, the project will close down for the winter with construction resuming next spring.
In 2018, plans call for paving from the south end of Bristol to the end of the project where Route 116 terminates at Route 7 in East Middlebury. Work will also include cleaning ditch lines, installing new guardrails and new traffic signs.
As part of this contract, a culvert located in Middlebury, on Route 116, just under a half mile south of the intersection with Airport Road, will also be replaced in 2018. A single lane traffic detour at the culvert site will carry traffic during construction. Alternating one-way traffic will be maintained at all times by a temporary traffic signal. Project completion is scheduled for October 2018.
Alternating one-way traffic will be maintained for all active construction operations daily. Motorists can expect traffic delays during daytime hours.
Contact Francine Perkins, Project Outreach Coordinator, FRP Enterprises, LLC with any questions or concerns with regards to the project at 802-479-6994. Construction updates will be posted at roadworkupdates.com.
