ADDISON COUNTY — Local drivers may have seen more Vermont State Police troopers on the highways lately.
During the latter half of last week and the first half of this week, state police increased traffic enforcement efforts and traffic safety messaging statewide as part of our response to a tragic week of highway fatalities. See full story in A section.
In other recent activity, state police:
•  On Aug. 8, at approximately 12:27 p.m. responded to a one-car crash into a guardrail on Route 116 in Starksboro. There were no injuries reported. Police cited driver Asher McCauley, 20, of Bristol for driving with a criminally suspended license, violation of conditions of release, and driving under the influence of drugs. They lodged McCauley at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500.
•  On Aug. 10 at approximately 4:50 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle on Mt. Philo Road in North Ferrisburgh after observing a motor vehicle violation. Police cited Richard Packard Jr., 35, of Ferrisburgh for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Aug. 11 at 13 minutes past midnight stopped a motor vehicle on Brown Road in Lincoln after seeing a traffic infraction. State police cited Colby Cheever, 37, of Lincoln for driving under the influence of alcohol.
•  On Aug. 13 at approximately 12:42 a.m. stopped a motor vehicle with defective equipment on North Main Street in Rutland. The trooper cited Thomas J. Reed, 48, of Brandon for DUI.
•  On Aug. 14 at around 6 p.m. stopped a car on Old Hollow Road in Ferrisburgh and cited Chad A. Palmer, 43, of Charlotte with driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Aug. 14 at 8:30 p.m. checked out a one-car crash, with minor injuries, on Singing Cedars Road in Orwell. State police cited John Hagin, 51, of Benson for DUI.
