Bristol hosts Vermont state horseshoe championship

BRISTOL — The Sodbusters Horseshoe Pitching Club in Bristol hosted 88 pitchers in the Vermont State Singles Championships this past Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12-13.
The home team’s strongest showing was in the Women’s Class A, where one-time world champ Debra Brown went 5-0 to win the title. The Sodbusters’ Mistylee Baird was second, followed by Diana Martin (5th) and Dawn Coleman (6th).
Former national champion Brian Simmons of Tennessee was winner in Class A with a perfect 7-0 record. He hit ringers on 74.52.
Sodbusters who placed in the tournament, with their place, win-loss record and ringer percentage, were:
Elders: 5. Ron Williamson, 3-3, 29.17.
Junior/Cadet: 3. Hunter Gorton, 0-4, 5.06.
Men’s A: 6. John Remy, 3-4, 41.97; 7. Michael Devino, 1-6, 50.56.
Men’s B: 8. Matt Coleman, 2-6, 27.16.
Men’s C: 3. Michael Brown, 4-2, 31.88.
Men’s E: 5. Maurice Cyr, 4-3, 15.57.
Men’s G: 3. Thomas Brooks Jr., 5-2, 10.63; 5. Christopher Hudson, 3-4, 6.57.
Women’s A: 1. Debra Brown, 5-0, 49.17; 2. Mistylee Baird, 3-2, 41.38; 5. Diana Martin, 2-3, 26.07; 6. Dawn Coleman, 1-4, 27.54.
Women’s B: 3. Donna Lewis, 5-3, 21.17; 5. Brianna McCormick, 4-3, 25.63.
Women’s C: 2. Beverly Forgues, 6-2, 10.89.
