Local travel group for county exploration is forming
MIDDLEBURY — Are you interested in taking a small risk and trying something different like exploring the nooks and crannies of Addison County?
A meeting for those interested in traveling and sightseeing within Addison County is being organized. The initial meeting will be this Thursday, Aug. 10, at 5 p.m. in the large meeting room at the Ilsley Library.
In addition to special “sights,” the travel group will explore details of places that are generally known but may deserve more attention. Travel group members will help plan as well as participate in the excursions. A written summary of the travel experiences will then be submitted to the Addison Independent. These activities should be fun and interesting for the travel group and may also inspire others to take similar trips.
The tentative name for the group is the “TSA” (Traveling Sightseeing Associates). The Aug. 10 meeting will provide opportunities to share ideas about Addison County sites to visit as well as how and when the visits will take place. A goal will be to establish a travel calendar for the year starting September 2017.
Whenever possible, the TSA travel group will use the ACTR bus system.
Some trip possibilities include:
• Destination Travels: “The TSA visits Main Street in Bristol” and “The TSA Goes Down an Alley” (Frog Hollow Alley businesses)
• Travels with a Theme: “The TSA Gets Economical” (Consignments/Thrift shops), “The TSA Cares about People” (Social Service Organizations including child care)
• Parks and other public places: “The TSA Takes a Hike” (Trail Around Middlebury, Battell and Means Woods etc.)
Contact Jan Walker at 388-4220 or [email protected] if you are interested in this group but can’t make the meeting or if you have travel ideas to suggest.
