Bridport accident closes Route 22A
BRIDPORT — Vermont State Police and emergency responders continue to work at the site of a major, two-car crash on Route 22A in Bridport that has resulted in what officials described as “multiple serious injuries.”
As of this writing, 22A is still closed in Bridport between Routes 74 and 125. The accident is said to be near the intersection of Rt. 22A and Cream Hill Road, near the Shoreham town line.
“I cannot confirm any fatalities at this time,” VSP Public Information Officer Scott Waterman said in an emailed response to the Independent, received at 2:27 p.m. “Route 22A is shut down and travelers should seek alternate routes. Troopers from VSP New Haven are on scene and the VSP Crash Reconstruction Team is responding as well. Route 22A is likely to be closed in both directions for an extended period. An updated press release will be sent as soon as an update is possible.”
The newsroom scanner popped with word of the crash at around 1 p.m. Middlebury Regional EMS sent at least one heavy rescue crew to the scene. Multiple additional agencies followed suit.
