Burlington edges Middlebury in swim finale
BURLINGTON — The Champlain Valley Swim League regular season wrapped up on Tuesday, when host Burlington Country Club outlasted the Middlebury Swim Team, 252-219.
MST took an early 35-21 lead over BCC by winning five of eight contested medley relays. But BCC’s slightly greater depth allowed it to go on top, 72-70, after racing in the first discipline, the butterfly, and the hosts gradually stretched their lead from there. In all, BCC earned 21 first-place finishes to 19 for MST in a closely contested meet.
All eight CVSL teams, including MST and the Vergennes Champs, will gather at the St. Albans town pool on Friday and Saturday for the CVSL championship meet. On the following weekend qualifiers from both teams will participate in the state championship meet in White River Junction. Swimmers from both the Middlebury and Vergennes teams are expected to do well in both meets.
On Tuesday, MST’s Ellie Ross and Oliver Poduschnick led the way with three wins a piece, and Molly Thalen, Connor McNamara, Aidan Chance, Archie Milligan, Natalie Rockwell and Devon Kearns picked up two victories each.
