Simmons back in Bristol to win horseshoe tourney

BRISTOL — The Sodbusters Horseshoe Pitching Club hosted 56 pitchers in the Sodbusters Open Tournament at the club’s home courts in Bristol this past Sunday, July 16.
Former national champion Brian Simmons was winner in Class A with a perfect 7-0 record. Simmonds, a one-time Sodbusters member who was listed in the results as a Tennessee resident now, hit ringers on 77.48 percent of his tosses.
Three current members of the local club won their divisions. Mistylee Baird won Class B, Michael Brown claimed the Class C title, and Beverly Forgues was Class G winner.
Sodbusters who placed in the tournament, with their win-loss record and ringer percentage, were:
Class A: 5. John Remy, 2-5, 49.38; and 7. Michael Devino, 2-5, 47.35.
Class B: 1. Mistylee Baird, 6-1, 39.33; 7. Dawn Coleman, 2-5, 27.61; and 8. Ron Williamson, 2-5, 27.42.
Class C: 1. Michael Brown, 6-1, 36.20.
Class D: 4. Donna Lewis, 4-3, 21.78; and 7. Brianna McCormick, 3-4, 24.69.
Class E: 2. Leon Ross, 5-2, 22.99; 4. Maurice Cyr, 3-4, 17.39; and 7. Lou Cousino, 2-5, 18.44.
Class F: 2. Alan Curler, 5-2, 17.58; and 6. Jackie Gorton, 2-5, 10.23.
Class G: 1. Beverly Forgues, 7-1, 10.16; 5. Christopher Hudson, 3-4, 7.47; 7. Adam Cousino, 2-5, 6.94; and 8. Hunter Gorton, 0-3, 4.00.
