Town Hall Theater’s Young Company to stage the musical ‘Annie’ July 22-23

MIDDLEBURY — “The sun’ll come out – tomorrow,” sings Little Orphan Annie, the diminutive star of one of Broadway’s biggest musicals. “Annie” won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1977, has played on stages across the world in 28 languages, and comes to Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater on July 22-23 under the direction of Douglas Anderson.
“As part of our education program I get to work with children and teenagers every July, “says Anderson. “We put on a big musical, professional in every way, and I’m not sure who has more fun — me or the kids.”
Based on the popular comic strip from the 1920’s, the musical follows Annie’s unhappy life in an orphanage and her unlikely charming of the richest man in town, Daddy Warbucks. It’s filled with catchy tunes and humor, “a perfect vehicle,” says Anderson, “for a group of energetic young performers.”
Helen Weston of Bristol will once again be the musical director. She teamed with Anderson for the past two summers on “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “James and the Giant Peach.” Middlebury college intern Akhila Khanna will serve as choreographer and assistant director.
The cast at the time of this printing includes Zayd Ahmad, Beatrice Porter, Anijah Beauvais, Parker Rae Chester, Chloe Clark, Vanille Bouvrot, Abigail Hayes, Amanda Kearns, Ella Kozak, Baker Nelson, Sophie Pope McCright, Jayden Rushton, Megan Thomas Danyow, Carter Sunderman Lee, Abigail Stafford, Sarah Heath, Georgia Peach Parmelee-Varkoutas, Caroline Teague and Suzy Klemmer.
“Annie” will run Saturday, July 22 at 7pm and Sunday July 23 at 2pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at townhalltheater.org, 802-382-9222, at the THT box office, or at the door Mon- Sat, noon-5pm or 1hr before show time.
