Bench in city park dedicated to Vietnam veterans
VERGENNES — The Seth Warner — Rhoda Farrand Chapter of the DAR has been an active partner with the Vietnam War Commemoration Committee for the past three years. This spring, the group purchased a park bench to dedicate local Vietnam veterans. A plaque attached by the chapter thanks and honors Vietnam veterans for their service. The bench has been placed in MacDonough Park in Vergennes, in a shady spot with a view of the falls.
The group held a dedication ceremony on Flag Day, June 14. Ellen Pratt, chapter regent, gave a brief overview of the goals of the committee and Ted Boelens sang beautiful renditions of two patriotic songs. The ceremony was followed by refreshments. Quite a few members of the community, including Mayor Daniels and city councilman Lowell Bertrand, showed up for the dedication, along with about 15 Vietnam-era veterans.
