Three local racers win over weekend at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN — Ferrisburgh’s Brad Bertrand, Leicester’s Derrick Counter and Shoreham’s Sean Beinhaur all won races this past weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven. 
In Saturday asphalt action, Mini Stock driver Bertrand became the first racer in any division to win four consecutive races to open the season since the present-day half-mile asphalt track was built in 2010. Bertrand took the lead from Cornwall’s Garrett Given after the halfway point and cruised to the win; Given finished a strong second.
In Sunday’s dirt-track action, Counter picked up his first-ever Bowl victory by winning the Mini Stock division in the two-segment “Mini Stock Frenzy.” Counter outlasted a bid by Chris Charbonneau, who finished second in the race, which included 15 laps per segment. Salisbury’s Brent Warren was fourth. 
Beinhaur also scored his first Bowl win in the 15-lap feature for the Mini Sprints. Beinhaur was one of four drivers to mix it up in a battle for the lead. Shoreham’s Colby Beinhaur earned fourth. 
The weekend featured “topless” nights, with drivers in roofless cars. On Sunday, New York drive Kenny Tremont Jr. won the 35-lap race Sportsman Modified feature, holding off Orwell’s Tim LaDuc for the victory. Whiting’s Jimmy Ryan was fourth. 
Hydeville’s Bill Duprey won the 20-lap Super Stock division race, with no local racers in the top five. 
On Saturday, Devil’s Bowl staged two 20-lap Sportsman Modified Features. New York driver Jason Durgan won the first, with Brandon’s Vince Quenneville Jr. in fifth. New York driver Ron Proctor won the second, with Quenneville moving up to third. 
Georgia’s Brett Wood won the 20-lap Super Stock Feature. Bristol’s R.J. Germain was fourth in that event 
Bomoseen’s Connor Watrous prevailed in the eight-lap Bandit Youth Mini Stock feature, with Salisbury’s Nick Austin-Neil taking third.
