Otter Valley has dramatic finish in D-II title game
BURLINGTON — You gotta have heart to win a sports title, and the Otter Valley Union High School baseball team proved that it did on Monday night at the University of Vermont’s Centennial Field.
With the Division II championship game vs. U-32 tied in the bottom of the seventh and two outs, Otter sophomore outfielder Nate Hudson lined a two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score senior Colby McKay and bring home the championship trophy to Brandon with a 3-2 win.
“All season long we believed. From the first day in the gym until right now, we believed,” said OV senior pitching ace Derek Aines, who tossed a complete-game five-hitter and struck out seven. “We knew all season long we were going to come back and we were going to win. That’s the mindset we had all season long. We have heart.”
