Local teachers honored as ‘unsung heroes’

COLCHESTER — In honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week May 8 through May 12, the admissions office at Saint Michael’s College asked first-year students to share about the teachers who truly made a difference in their lives and inspired them to pursue higher education. Students responded immediately with heartfelt words of praise for the teachers who had meant so much to them.
Two Addison County students identified teachers that made a significant difference in their lives, nominating those teachers as St. Michael’s “Unsung Heroes.”
MaKayla Foster, a first-year English & Elementary Education major and the daughter of James and Tricia Foster of Middlebury, has nominated Karen Greene of Middlebury Union High School. Aaron Gaines, son of Scott and Mary Gaines of Vergennes and a first-year Business Administration major, has nominated Beth Adreon of Vergennes Union High School.
This year Saint Michael’s announced 57 Unsung Heroes from 54 schools in 10 states across 2 nations, recognized and nominated because of their passion for teaching, ability to go above the call of duty, and taking time to connect with students.
