Infinitus, longest trail race in state, offers races from 8K to 5,518 mile in Goshen

GOSHEN — The longest trail race in the state, the third Infinitus 888K (551.8-mile) starts on May 18, 8:08 a.m., and gives runners 10 days to complete laps in the wilds of the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area. Based out of Blueberry Hill Inn in Goshen, the weeklong event gives lesser mortals a chance to run the trails of the Moosalamoo with an 8k, 80k, marathon, 100-mile or 250-mile options. In 2015 and 2016, only one person finished the 888k. Plenty more tried.
The Endurance Society sponsors a series of wicked footraces that kick off with Infinitus. ?Andy Weinberg is the spirit and inspiration behind it all. He lives in Pittsfield with his wife Sloan and daughters Grace and Jade. Weinberg teaches Health, Human Movement and Sport at Castleton University, is a member of Killington Search and Rescue and serves on the Board of Directors for Special Olympics Vermont.
Weinber has been directing endurance events for over 15 years. He started the McNaughton Ultra-marathons, Peak Adventure Racing and co-founded the Spartan Race. His endurance accomplishments include double, triple, and quintuple ironman triathlons, a 1,200-mile, solo bike ride from Illinois to Vermont, open-water swimming events, adventure races, and ultra-distance trail races.
Co-founded in 2014, the mission of The Endurance Society is twofold: “To create unique, life-changing, and mind-blowing experiences for adventure enthusiasts; and to utilize our members for community involvement.”
?“The Endurance Society embodies physical strength, mental fortitude, integrity, loyalty, courage, teamwork, and the indomitable human spirit,” or so says www.endurancesociety.org. “We encourage athletes and adventure seekers from all disciplines to join us, and to continue challenging and supporting one another.”
Are you ready to challenge yourself? Or watch others as they kick off the start of Infinitus? Head up to Blueberry Hill and cheer the participants on — then go get a cookie.
