Three local high school softball teams claim wins

ADDISON COUNTY — In high school softball late last week, Middlebury, Otter Valley and Mount Abraham each split two games, while Vergennes dropped a pair. This week brings the end of the regular season.
TIGERS
On Thursday the Tigers blanked host Spaulding, 7-0, as Payton Buxton tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 13. Buxton’s three hits included two doubles, and Lily Smith doubled and singled twice for the Tigers.
On Saturday, visiting Missisquoi improved to 13-1 by edging the Tigers, 7-5. The T-Birds reached Buxton for 13 hits, but she walked none and fanned nine. MUHS can apparently nail down a top-four seed in Division I with wins at St. Albans on Tuesday and at home vs. Burlington on Wednesday.
OTTERS
On this past Wednesday, the Otters defeated host Windsor, 8-5, when Gabby Poalino slugged a three-run homer in the sixth inning to snap a 5-5 tie. Courtney Bushey earned the win, allowing seven hits and five walks and striking out 11. Bushey also poked two hits. Windsor dropped to 1-13.
On Friday, D-I title contender Mount Anthony thumped OV, 19-0. Poalino had the only hit as the Otters’ record evened at 6-6.
EAGLES
On Thursday the Eagles took a big lead over visiting Milton before a thunderstorm forced the game to be suspended. Milton elected to forfeit rather than return on Friday.
On Saturday, the Eagles were held to three hits as visiting South Burlington improved to 10-4 with a 17-1 victory. Rachael McCormick took the pitching loss.
COMMODORES
In a game begun on Thursday and finished on Friday, visiting Colchester (13-1) scored 14 runs in the first inning in a 16-2 win over VUHS. For VUHS, Sarah Rathbun doubled and scored on a Xzavia Berry single, and Taylor Bresnick singled in Berry. Megan Tarte also doubled.
On Saturday, visiting Essex pounded out a 20-4 win as VUHS dropped to 2-11.
