Mount Abe, MUHS track and field athletes excel at BHS invitational
BURLINGTON — Track and field athletes from Mount Abraham and Middlebury union high schools posted strong individual results at Saturday’s Burlington Invitational, which drew competitors from 25 Vermont high schools.
Mount Abe’s Emma Radler tied for first place in the pole vault, while teammates Lydia Pitts placed in three events and Finn Clements and Jackson Counter finished second and third, respectively, in the boys’ javelin toss.
For MUHS, Josh Girard placed in two events, and the girls’ four-by-400-meter relay team of Isabel Olson, Ailey Bosworth, Helen Anderson and Caroline Kimble took third.
In combined scoring for girls’ and boys’ event, St. Johnsbury picked up 288 points to win the meet, with Essex (159) in second. Mount Abe (46) was 11th, and MUHS (16) took 17th.
The Tigers were set to host Vergennes on Wednesday at the Middlebury College track in their only home meet of the spring. The Independent plans to publish full results and photos in its Monday edition.

• 800: 10. Olson, MUHS, 2:31.83.
• 1,500: 9. Kimble, MUHS, 5:12.93.
• 100 hurdles: 3. Pitts, MAU, 16.61.
• 4X800: 3. MUHS, 10:06.7 (Olson, Bosworth, Anderson, Kimble).
• Pole Vault: 1. (tie) Radler, MAU, 9’-2”.
• Long jump: 4. Pitts, MAU, 16’-0”.
• Triple jump: 3. Pitts, MAU, 34’-6.25”.
• Shot put: 6. Emma Carter, MAU, 31’-6”.
• Javelin: 8. Vanessa Dykstra, MAU, 88’-10”.
BOYS’ RESULTS
Boys who recorded top-10 finishes for local teams in Burlington were:
• 400: 10. Girard, MUHS, 54.15.
• 300 hurdles: 9. Jude Bunch, MAU, 45.63.
• 4X100 relay: 5. MUHS, 47.2 (Tristan Durante, Ben Balparda, Anthony Garner, Damien Morris).
• Triple jump: 4. Girard, MUHS, 38’-9”.
• Shot put: 8. Nanja Horning, MUHS, 39’-8.5”.
• Javelin: 2. Finn Clements, MAU, 165’-7”; 3. Jackson Counter, MAU, 154’-11”.
