Tiger tennis teams split a couple

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School tennis teams each split two matches against tough competition last week.
The 2-2 Tiger girls on Thursday lost to visiting Spaulding, 5-2, with the doubles teams of Amelia Ingersoll and Monroe Cromis at No. 1 and Nora Draper and Megi Hoxha at No. 2 both prevailing in hard-fought matches to earn the Tiger points. The Tide improved to 2-2.
On Friday, the Tiger girls bounced back by blanking a 4-2 Montpelier squad, 7-0. MUHS won all seven matches in straight sets and improved to 3-2
On Thursday, the Tiger boys edged host Spaulding, 4-3, getting wins at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, from Ziven McCarty and Owen Hammel and the doubles teams of Hunter Munteanu and Spencer Doran, at No. 1 in a third-set tiebreakers, and Drew Kiernan and Sam Daly in straight sets. The Tide dropped to 0-3.
On Friday, Montpelier moved to 10-0 by defeating the Tigers, 7-0. MUHS dropped to 2-3.

In individual matches vs. Spaulding:
• At No. 1 singles, Lizzi Tchantzouridza (S) defeated Claire Wulfman (M), 6-3, 6-1.
• At No. 2 singles, Whitney Renaud (S) defeated Sierra Barnicle, 6-0, 6-0.
• At No. 3 singles, Randi Dudley (S) defeated Charlotte Keathley (M), 6-3, 3-6, 1-0.
• At No. 4 singles, Kelsey Nolan (S) defeated Tasha Hescock (M), 6-3, 4-6, 1-0.
• At No. 5 singles, Faith Redmond (S) defeated Calista Carl (S), 6-0, 5-7, 1-0.
• At No. 1 doubles, Ingersoll/Cromis (M) defeated Maddy Pletzer/Yvonne Otis (S), 6-4, 6-3.
• At No. 2 doubles, Draper/Hoxha (M) defeated Megan Brier and Maykayla Boisvert (S), 6-7, 7-5, 1-0.
In individual matches vs. Montpelier:
• At No. 1 singles, Wulfman (Midd) defeated Emily Bashara (Mont), 6-3, 6-4).
• At No. 2 singles, Keathley defeated Brynn Bushey (Mont), 7-5, 6-2.
• At No. 3 singles, Barnicle defeated Bella Luhr (Mont), 6-2, 6-2.
• At No. 4 singles, Cromis defeated Meredith Stetter (Mont), 7-6, 7-5.
• At No. 5 singles, Carl defeated Lilly Gingold (Mont), 6-3, 6-3.
• At No. 1 doubles, Ingersoll/Draper defeated Christie Cecere/Josie Gingold (Mont), 6-1, 6-2.
• At No. 2 doubles, Hattie Lindert/Hoxha defeated Azwayla Taylor/Evie Caserta (Mont), 6-4, 6-2.
TIGER BOYS
In individual matches vs. Spaulding:
• At No. 1 singles, McCarty (M) defeated Chris Cambio (S 6-0, 6-0.
• At No. 2 singles, Hammel (M) defeated Gus Hahn (S 6-0, 6-2.
• At No. 3 singles, Brandon Bedard (S) defeated Jesse Rubin (M 6-4, 7-5.
• At No. 4 singles, Hamisi Wabuti (S) defeated Ronan Howlett (M 7-5, 6-3.
• At No. 5 singles, Luke Krupa (S) defeated Alex Marohnic (M 7-5, 4-6, 1-0.
• At No. 1 doubles, Munteanu/ Doran (M) defeated Jeb Welch/Jordan Fetcher (S 6-1, 2-6, 1-0.
• At No. 2 doubles, Kiernan/Daly (M) defeated Kenna Soriano/Silas Jackson (S 6-3, 6-3.
In individual matches vs. Montpelier:
• At No. 1 singles, Tyler Cain (Mont) defeated McCarty, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0.
• At No. 2 singles, Alberto Sanz (Mont) defeated Hammel, 6-0, 6-0.
• At No. 3 singles, Truman Lee-Solomon (Mont) defeated Rubin, 6-0, 6-1.
• At No. 4 singles, Henry Valentine (Mont) defeated Howlett, 6-0, 6-0.
• At No. 5 singles, Ben Hancock-Song (Mont) defeated Tre Bonavita, 6-1, 6-1.
• At No. 1 doubles, Cole Bingham/Josh Golonka (Mont) defeated Munteanu/ Doran, 6-1, 6-1.
• At No. 2 doubles, Alex Allison/David Frey (Mont) defeated Daly/ Kiernan, 6-2, 6-4.
