In baseball action: Otters win twice, edge Slaters, 5-4

ADDISON COUNTY — Otter Valley won twice to provide the only baseball highlights locally late last week, as Mount Abraham, Vergennes and Middlebury all lost games.
OTTERS
On Wednesday, the Otters edged visiting Fair Haven, 5-4. Derek Aines allowed only one earned run and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning to earn the win. He struck out 10 and allowed eight hits and two walks. He outdueled Slater Jesse Tucker, who allowed nine hits and two earned runs.
OV scored an unearned run in the first and picked up two runs in the third on singles by Nate Hudson, Payson Williams and Josh Beayon, with Beayon’s knocking in two runs. Williams and Dominic McCullough added RBI singles in the fifth.
The 5-6 Slaters got RBIs from Cody Seaver in the fifth on a squeeze bunt and from a Tim Fyles single in the sixth.  
On Friday, Williams tossed a four-hitter and struck out nine in a 6-2 win over visiting Bellows Falls. Reilly Shannon poked two hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Williams also scored twice, and Hudson and Kollin Bissette picked up RBIs as OV improved to 6-4 and BF fell to 4-6.
EAGLES
On Thursday, visiting Missisquoi scored two unearned runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Eagles, 4-2. Losing pitcher George Bailey struck out six in 5.2 innings.  
On Saturday, the Tigers pounded out a 16-5 victory over the Eagles, who dropped to 5-6. Losing pitcher Dustin Whitcomb poked two hits for the Eagles.
COMMODORES
On Thursday, St. Albans hurler Cam Bushey shut down the Commodores and also homered in the Bobwhites’ 16-1 victory.
On Saturday, visiting Rice drilled 18 hits in a 16-4 victory over the 4-7 Commodores. Ethan Bissonnette took the pitching loss.
TIGERS
On Thursday, visiting Milton amassed 10 hits and took advantage of five errors to defeat the Tigers, 7-1. Hale Hescock singled, stole second and scored on one of Patrick Messenger’s two hits for MUHS (1-10). Simon Fischer also doubled in the game, during which Messenger suffered a shoulder injury that will cause him to miss time. Wyatt Cameron took the pitching loss.
