WomenSafe Mother’s Day card features local artist Pamela Smith

ADDISON COUNTY — WomenSafe recently unveiled the 2017 Mother’s Day card — the 16th in its annual Local Women Artists Series. Addison County artist Pamela Smith’s colorful and cheerful painting, titled “Woman with Children,” graces the front of this year’s card.
“The piece is immediately inviting because of its depiction of women across the gender and age spectrum who are of many races,” WomenSafe said in announcing its Mother’s Day card. “Women’s oppressions are often different, and only by fighting all oppressors can we have justice.  To end domestic and sexual violence, we must be intersectional. ‘Woman with Children’ beautifully depicts the women all intertwined with flowers and joining hands to come together for a common cause.”
Smith created this piece using a mixture of gouache, watercolors, ink and crayon. She painted it in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The artist is a self-taught painter who lives in Vermont and Asia. She is a dedicated supporter of those who access WomenSafe in Addison County. WomenSafe described her advocacy as thoughtful, nurturing and holistic, noting that she “listens and interacts with people with an open heart.”
Those who chose the image of this year’s WomenSafe Mother’s Day card said it speaks beautifully to how we all can work together to create healthy and safe relationships and communities.
Everyone is invited to honor their mother or any special person in their life who has offered the gifts of love to them and those for whom they care. In buying a card, people are helping people who may not be safe this Mother’s Day.
To purchase a card, send a donation to WomenSafe at P.O. Box 67, Middlebury, VT 05753 along with the name and address of your chosen honoree. WomenSafe will then acknowledge your gift by sending them this heartfelt card.
