County track and field athletes earn gold

CHITTENDEN COUNTY — Athletes from the Middlebury, Vergennes and Mount Abraham union high school track and field teams won events at recent meets held in Chittenden County.
On Monday, Commodore Sadie Kass raced to a win at 800 meters at a meet hosted by Colchester, finishing in 2:38.62.
Other Commodores who placed in the top three in Colchester on Monday were:
•  Girls’ 100-meter dash: 3. Megan Rooney.
•  Boys’ 800: 2. Wade Mullin.
•  Boys’ Shot put: 2. Brandon Cousino.
On Saturday, neither team sent full squads, but several Eagle and Tiger athletes competed at South Burlington’s 16-team Coaches vs. Cancer Twilight meet, and two — Mount Abe’s Emma Radler and Middlebury’s Isabel Olson — picked up victories. Radler won the pole vault at nine feet, six inches, and Olson prevailed at 1,500 meters in 5:22.76.
On May 3, Tiger athletes won 10 events at a four-team meet hosted by Essex High School. Josh Girard and Chloe Kane each won twice, Henry Ganey and Ben Balparda won one event apiece, and MUHS relay teams claimed four victories.
 Essex won boys’ and girls’ team title. The Hornet boys’ scored 122 points, with MUHS and Colchester tied for second at 67 and Winooski (6) trailing the field. The Hornet girls scored 159, with Colchester (64) and MUHS (46) trailing.  
BOYS’ RESULTS
Scoring points for the Tiger boys were:
•  100 meters: 3. Damien Morris, 12.36.    
•  200: 1. Balparda, 24.8; 3. Morris, 24.93.
•  400: 1. Girard, 55.57.
•  800: 1. Ganey, 2:05.28; 5. Thomas Maron, 2:21.55. 
•  1,500: 3. Julian Schmitt, 4:44.24.
•  3,000: 3. Schmitt, 10:46.61. 
•  110 hurdles: 4. Matthew Lapiner, 22.41.
•  300 hurdles: 4. Garrett Troumbley, 49.92; 4. Matthew Ouellette, 52.61.
•  4X400: 1. 3:46.17 (Maron, Girard, Ganey, Morris).
•  4X800: 1. 8:52.78 (Maron, Schmitt, Jakub Kraus, Ganey).
•  Long jump: 3. Girard, 17-10.5.
•  Triple jump: 1. Girard, 36-5.
•  Shot put: 2. Nanja Horning, 37-9.
•  Discus: 4. Horning, 99-2.  
•  Javelin: 2. Horning, 115-7.
GIRLS’ RESULTS
Scoring points with top-five finishes for local teams were:
•  100: 1. Kane, 13.76; 3. Megan Townsend, 13.98.
•  200: 1. Kane, 28.21; 5. Townsend, 29.73.
•  400: 3. Helen Anderson, 1:04.72.
•  800: 4. Ailey Bosworth, 2:44.69. 
•  1,500: 4. Caroline Kimble, 5:27.86; 5. Olson, 5:29.22. 
•  4X100 relay: 1. 54.20 (Kane, Kiana Plouffe, Trinity Bryant, Townsend).  
•  4X400: 1. 4:28.67 (Anderson, Bosworth, Olson, Kimble).
•  4X800: 2. 10:25.78 (Anderson, Bosworth, Olson, Kimble).
•  Long jump: 3. Plouffe (14-1.5).
•  Shot put: 6. Emily Pottinger, 23-1.5. 
•  Discus: 3. Pottinger, 68-2.
