Mount Abe, MUHS pick up softball wins
ADDISON COUNTY — In recent local high school softball action, Middlebury and Mount Abraham picked up road wins, while Vergennes dropped two road contests. Otter Valley was idle, but was set to visit Rutland this Thursday.
TIGERS
On Tuesday, the Tigers scored five times in the first inning on the way to a 13-6 victory at South Burlington. Payton Buxton earned the pitching win, striking out 12 and allowing eight hits, and also homered in the first and singled. Taylor Sylvester also homered for MUHS, and Abby LaRock andBridget Audet each doubled and singled as the Tigers improved to 3-1. Losing pitcher Liz Sargent poked three hits for the 2-1 Rebels.
EAGLES
On Tuesday, the Eagles defeated host Burlington, 14-7, to improve to 2-0. Audrey Shahan picked up the pitching win, but offensive details were not available.
COMMODORES
The Commodores dropped an 18-7 decision on Tuesday to host Mount Mansfield despite taking an early 7-1 lead. The 1-2 Cougars rallied behind a 19-hit attack keyed by winning pitcher Riley LeBourveau’s homer, single and four RBIs.
Sarah Rathbun andHannah Philbrook each had two hits and two RBIs for the 0-3 Commodores, and Taylor Bresnick also chipped in two hits. Aly Gebo took the pitching loss.
The Commodores also lost to host Randolph on Saturday, 12-5. Details on that game remain unavailable.
